Reproduction Heater Hoses
My car is a 427/390 Coupe with A/C and I starting to research how makes the best reproduction heater hose out there for my 68. I have been looking with originals one, but no luck. I am looking for advise on which manufacture producing repops( paragon,Corvette America, Dr Rebuild...) heater hoses for my car would work the best when having the car flight judged. I know there will be standard deductions for not originals, but I am running out for time. My car is scheduled to be chapter judged this june. I reserched the achieve on this subject on a 68 and did come accross info. Any help on this is greatly appreciated. Jeff

Re: Reproduction Heater Hoses
Jeff, I went through this with my 72 air car, with no luck I hate say, no one make a ribbed style hose for the air cars, I Just went with molded hoses from corvette central. I figured that is about a 1.5 point deduct on configuation and date. the total points are only 3.0 originality and 3.0 for cond.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

I prefer the Doc Rebuild hoses when given the option.

Pat, corvette central didn't have any logos. Doc. rebuild had the same hoses but were about another 20 bucks more.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: Reproduction Heater Hoses
Buy Doc's or Paragon's or Zip's, etc. hoses and use some lacquer thinner to remove the GM blocks and you will be fine. It's the best you can do unless you buy originals. If you want to make the repops look even better, get a DL or U ink stamp and place them in a few spots and you will really be golden. If I'm judging, I'll say great and move on to the next line item.

Re: Reproduction Heater Hoses
Hi Don,
In his catalogue, on pages 46-47, Dr. R does list some 2 letter codes for the hoses on various engines, model years, and options.
There are no pictures but this info might be a help in deciding what may have been typical for your car.

Re: Reproduction Heater Hoses
I need to get some shots and will put that on my 'To Do' list. I am sure there is someone on this board that would understand, specifically, the one or two letter codes seen on some original cars. I have not taken the time to really look at them to get dimensions, spacing, etc. I do have a friend/restorer who is making me a stamp and I will probably pick it up at Bloomington Gold. I purchased a set of hoses from Doc Rebuild and will apply the codes(s) when I've done more research.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in.

MarkI measured, and I'll be darned if I can figure out how they put them on there.
For over twenty years I told people there were no ink stamps on my heater hoses. Go figure.Terry- Top

Re: Reproduction Heater Hoses
If I remember -- I will bring one of the heater hoses from my 1970 to Gettysburg. I intended to bring it to Florida to show Stan, but then I forgot. You will like it. It is another piece I haven't been able to get a good picture of. You can try at Gettysburg. There is no consistent pattern to the ink stamps.I measured, and I'll be darned if I can figure out how they put them on there.

Terry,
Can you bring it to BG as I'm not going to make Gettysburg. My wife has other plans for me that weekend (I have already caught the requisite amount of B-Busting from Chuckie.)
Gary B. is making me a stamp so maybe I can compare it to yours.Kramden- Top

The 'someone' I was referring to just posted.

I hate to drag stuff to BG. Too far to walk from the parking and no place to put the "stuff." Too many lookie-lous and too little control. If you would spend a little more time in town ...
I'll talk to Gary B about it. I think he saw it a while back, but I'll check. He and I have some plans anyway.Terry- Top
