BY ANY CHANCE would anyone know the part number (Weatherhead or Edelmann brand) for the fitting that connects the 59-61 canister type fuel filter to the fuel meter (or does it even exist anymore)? It's somewhat of an oddball fitting, probably used only in VERY few applications.

Tom, is that not a double male pipe threaded fitting? If not, please correct me. I've got Weatherhead catalogs here and, if the right fitting is still made I can find a part number for you.

Re: Weatherhead or Edelman part number for 59-61 FI fuel filter fitting
Jim,
I also have BOTH catalogs-------------so far, haven't located the fitting.
One end of the fitting is 1/8in male PIPE thread (screws into the fuel meter cover). The other end is male thread for an inverted flare 5/16 tube. The INSIDE of the outlet side of the canister lid is like a female fitting for a 5/16 flare fitting. The center of the fitting itself has a hex for a wrench.
When I received the FI unit for rebuilding, it had a "rigged" fitting that was sealed with some kind of epoxy sealer. I just need to put it back together with a correct fitting for the owner (restoration shop in KC).
I swear, as the years go by, the quality and completeness and bubbaizing on these FI units is becoming worse!!!!
I just finished one for John Neas' 58 big brake car that I had to put on hold for 6mo before I rounded up acceptable parts to complete the rebuild!
I hate to be harsh with customers, but it's getting to the point that I'm going to have to tell people to round up needed parts themselves when they send me incomplete FI units.- Top

Re: Weatherhead or Edelman part number for 59-61 FI fuel filter fitting
I've had my '60 for 31 years and I had never noticed that fitting before. Talk about a lack of attention to detail....
Anyway, I've got a solution for you. Get a Male Connector, Weatherhead 68X5. This is a 5/16" compression fitting/1/8" male pipe combination. Cut the end off a 5/16" steel tube with an inverted flare end; make the cut about 1/4" from the end. Slip this cut end with the flare into the 68X5 and screw the combination into the fuel filter.
That's what I found when I disassembled mine and it's worked for at least 31 years without any leaks at all.

My all time favorite was a piece of tape under the piezometer ring, blocking the path of the venturi signal. Another high finisher was a fuel meter that had the economy and power stop screws adjusted so the ratio lever could not move at all. (The owner said the unit "worked fine".)

Re: Weatherhead or Edelman part number for 59-61 FI fuel filter fitting
Jim,
I finally found the Weatherhead(1514) and Edelmann(261520) part numbers for the correct fitting. And, my local O'Reilly store was able to get the single fitting that was in the local warehouse!!!
In the Edelmann catalog, the fitting is at the bottom of pg 18 and it's referred to as a Plymouth adapter!
Fits perfect!

Tom & Jim, The Weather head fitting is history. Been discontinued for quite a while now. it wasn't really 100% correct but got the job done.
This past year I spent a lot of time going thru catalogs looking for that old fitting. It's gone.
I understand repros are available. Can't tell you who though as this isn't the Driveline.- Top

I did a test fit of the fitting in the picture above. Works perfect. But there was only ONE in town. So, I'm looking forward to receiving the ones I ordered from John for inventory.
I never have had to replace that fitting, but as we all know, when you need a part, YOU NEED IT!!! So it will be good to have a couple of spares!- Top

I found the Weatherhead 1514 at NAPA. He had 2 in the store and said there were many more in the warehouse. It fits the fuel filter. I didn't try it in the fuel meter yet.- Top

That's good.
The O'Reilly stores carry Edelmann brand, so I had my local store order 6 fittings. It will probalby take 40yrs for me to use all of them. But the important thing is that I got 'um!
Personally, I like the Edelmann fittings better (for this type of application) than the Weatherhead fittings because the Weatherhead fittings have their logo stamped in the hex flat and the Edelmann fittings are plain!- Top
