    Spare tire tube question

Does anyone know if a Firestone 205/75/15 from Diamond back tire fit in the spare tire tub of a 1966??

    Yes.

That's the exact tire that I have on my car and in the tub. I had to use the longer bolts (like for knock offs) to make it easier to raise the tire up into the tub, but it fits. I am not sure why getting the tire up in the tub with the standard bolts is an issue, but it is.

      Rob,
Thanks for the response. My car came with 215/70/15 and they handled such fine. I assume that the 205/75/15 will also handle fine. I am going to order a set today. A friend with a 65 is also going to order a set.

      Thanks again Rod

If you have the original set up a P205 will fit, less the air, once inflated you will not be able to close the cover.

          Ronald,
Thanks for the reply. I do not have the orginal tires however I do need new ones. I was hoping that the 205/75/15 would fit in the tub. Do you know if 215/70/15 will fit? The car came with KO wheels.

            Rod,

If you car is set up already with the longer bolts used with KO wheels that hold the support tray for the spare tire, you should be fine with the 205's (even with air in them). You will be able to raise it up into the tub.

IF you have the stadard bolts, you will not be able to get the spare raised into the tub.

FWIW, I am happy with the Diamondback tires that you are considering. Plus, I have a spare that I can really drive on if needed.

Rob, Thanks. I believe that these tires are the closest thing to orginal for my car so I have ordered a set.

                Rob,

Which diamond backs did you get/ do they have an accurate white wall for 66?

                  Ron -

Diamond Back applies (vulcanizes) the white (or red, or blue, or gold, or whatever you want) to the tire, and trims it to whatever width and distance from the rim you want; every set is a custom job.

I have a set of their 205/75-15 (Firestone) redline radials on bolt-ons on my '67, and the spare fits in my tub, with about a 3/4" gap at the rear of the tray (with the "long" front hanger bolts and rear lock bolt). However, my tub is a reproduction, and they're slightly larger in diameter than the original tubs were.

                    Ron,

I bought the same Firestone tires that John describes. I ordered mine with the correct white wall configuration for a 66 for judging purposes.

Thanks Guys (John & Rob), From their website and John I knew they had the 67 configuration but their chart did not show the 66 wsw configuration. P205 as we know a P215 is going to hit in certain circumstances...
