Re: 67 Rally Wheel Hubcap
John; My Bowtie is Chrome and I know that it is original to the car. My car has a late 67 build date.

Re: 67 Rally Wheel Hubcap
John; I just went and looked at my 67 JM fourth edition and it says that the words "CHEVROLET MOTOR DIVISION DISC BRAKES" are painted black but it says nothing about the bowtie being painted black.

Re: 67 Rally Wheel Hubcap
John, I likewise checked, and Bill Lacy is exactly correct. Perhaps there was a typo in the earlier edition.
Secondly, I had previously sold about $250K worth of used original and NOS GM parts before retiring from the business. I've bought and resold countless sets of both used original, and NOS '67 center caps. The cast bowtie is always just chrome.
If you would kindly also allow me to throw in some other center cap info on your thread, I need to offer a correction and apology.
In a previous TDB thread from February of 2009 entitled "1967 Rally Hubcaps", I had somewhat debated that I thought the idea that original center cap centers having a "gold tone" was an urban myth.
In that previous thread, experienced members such as Jack Humprey, Brian McHale, Wayne Womble, Warren Schindler, and John Daly had offered commentary that evidence existed that original caps had this golden hue to them. I doubted that it was anything other than wear & tear to the chrome plating, from over-polishing thru the decades.
I now see I was wrong, and apologize to those I felt were mistaken.
Recently I was lucky enough to purchase a dusty set of original take-off rally wheel center caps and trim rings from a 1967 Corvette. The center caps were removed the day the Corvette was delivered to the cutomer, and have never been cleaned or polished. This corvette was drag raced for years, and the caps were never put back on.
I will attach three pics, the first being a photo of a NOS set fo caps I have from the mid 1980s.
The second and third photos are of this take-off set, that were original assembly line stock shipped to the selling dealer in 1967.
Hope this helps, Ridge.

Re: 67 Rally Wheel Hubcap
Ridge..My 67 I bought in 1978 was from an original owner and it had the center cabs with a gold hue. I have only seen a few sets with the gold hue, but I know those were original...Bill- Top

Re: 67 Rally Wheel Hubcap
John - I just could pass up responding to your DP Posting and sure enough the when I checked the BowTies on the original wheel hubcaps on my on my early sb 67 (S/N 1476) are not painted. Being a rare sb, I doubt if owners previous to 1984 "whaled on it" to spun the wheels hard enough to cause the paint to come off. The circle groove and letters still have the black paint.

Had to pull out the believed original center caps from 18202 after reading this conversation.
They have the gold hue as mentioned. They certainly could have been switched in its life.
Is there any kind of time line to these? And I would certainly like to reinstall them if the minor pitting didn't cost me points.
Thank you, as always, for your knowledge.
