    Judging - exterior paint

My 72coupe is B/C C/C paint, it is going to be a problem when judging, I have a question, reguarding once the doors are opened and the jams pass , does this mean the exterior paint is not judged ,or do you go on to judging the exterior paint ? there is another reason I ask this, my dog legs have a strip of 3M clear peel and stick on each side, if the exterior paint is not judged should I worry about this? thanks for your responses, Ed.

    Ed,

    The entire car is judged.

Exterior for look as original and color tint. If the clear is polished like a mirror you will have a decent deduct.

The door jambs, front valance, rear valence, inner door metal, top underside of rear window and lower parts of rear quarters and front fenders are judged for appearance of unpolished lacquer.

You would get a deduct with the clear plastic pieces - not installed at factory.

      Ed,

I would verify with Roy Sinor exactly what would/could be done about those strips. Given the rules on "pinstripes" etc your 3M "might" result in a total deduction for paint. Only Roy could tell you for sure, but it would not surprise me given the "pinstripe rule."

Ed, I lost half of my total possible point's for my paint being too perfect, but only in the Originality section 22/45 but for Condition didn't lose any 40/40. Jim

The door jams are judged by the interior judges. The only time the exterior judges look at the jams is when the finish paint does not appear to be the factory applied material. Thats when they are trying to determine if it's a 50% deduct or a 100%. See the attached flow chart.
