Alternator Date

I know that the altenator date code must precede the car manufacture date, but I was wondering if anybody could tell me what the average space between the time of manurfacture and the altenator date is. My serial is 103766 body build date of Dec 4 and motor date of August 28. The NCRS book states build date, is this the engine date or the body build date? I assume Body build date on the plate by glove compartment. Just want to get it right the first time.

The alternator date should precede the build date of the car. The alternator was mounted on the engine on the vehicle assembly line.Most typical is 2 to 8 weeks prior,NCRS accepts out to 6 months.

The alternator on my Mar build (trim tag) '73 coupe is stamped July '72, so I fall in that 8 month prior category.

Perhaps some others outside the 6 month window will reply.
