BB or SB Manual or automatic? Bill

The lifting bracket on Small Blocks with manual transmission attaches to the bell housing to engine bolt -- the topmost of the two outer ones that are right above each other. Since the rear of the engine was supported by a hook from this bracket during painting it would have received some orange with the rest of the engine. Oh, and there was no transmission attached to the bell housing at this point.

The rear bracket on manual transmission Big Blocks attaches to the rear of the head, and will have the same color as the head. Aluminum head resulted in a natural, unpainted lifting bracket.
