Hello all, I am trying to make sure I am spraying the correct type of paint in my trunk & convertable compartments, I have a spare convt. lid top in unrestored condition & appears to have been sprayed in venetian red lacquer paint. I painted the inst. panel, steering coln., upper door metal trim in enamel finish. Looked thru all history post & have not found any stated facts to guide me in finish type of paint inside these two compartments. I am leaning towards Lacquer. My original color of my 57 is arctic blue & beige interia. My question is Lacquer or enamel type paint in thoes areas?

No enamel on any body part that I know of, except maybe for dipped brackets etc. If it was painted a color at the factory, it was lacquer. In the case of 56-57 it was nitrocellulose lacquer.- Top

Adam, I agree with Wayne. The undersides of the conv. compartment lid and trunk lid should be semi-gloss nitrocellulose. The line where the exterior and interior colors meet is covered by weatherstripping. Refer p. 26 of the new Tech. Info. Manual and Judging Guide. I have a Polo White '57 and have since '64. The undersides have the original semi-gloss Venetian Red and weatherstripping.

John I just noticed this picture and the fact that the convertible tabs are grey on the underside, as my new ones from Al Knoch are. New JG says they should be black but I dont think I have ever seen any that are black on the underside. What do you think?
Bill
I replaced the tabs during the restoration (15 years ago) with reproductions; don't recall what the underside of the originals looked like, but they were nearly disintegrated (the car had sat half-disassembled in boxes in a dirt-floor garage for 14 years before I found it - belonged to one of those "gonna fix it up one day" guys who never did).- Top
