    tie rod ends

I seem to have lost a page in my AIM that has to do with the front end and tie rods. Could someone please tell me how tight the nuts should be on the tie rod ends and clamps please. The car is a 1967, 327/350. I appreciate any help. Thanks, Dennis

The torque spec for these nuts is 10-13 ft/lbs.

      Joe,

Where did you get that Spec? I actually looked in the AIM for Dennis,, found the page , UPC 9 A2 , but could find no spec for the clamps .

For some unknown reason there are 2 pages left out of the 1967 AIM. These are UPC 9, sheets A1 and A2. It's A2 that contains the torque spec.

However, this system was used on all 1963-82 Corvettes and was, basically, unchanged for all those years. While the torque spec is provided in most other year AIM's, there is, for some unknown reason, much "discrepancy".

The torque spec I provided is from the 1966 AIM. It should be identical to the 1967. Also, as a "cross check", the torque spec provided in the 1969 Chassis Service Manual is 11 lb/ft----just about the middle of the 1966 range. In general, the torque spec found for most fasteners in the chassis service manuals will be a value just about in the middle of the PRODUCTION-specified torque RANGE.

          Joe ,

Right again ! It was there right under my nose ! UPC 9 A2 , bottom right hand corner . I see now why I missed it . They don't assign any number to that nut, you just have to refer to that drawing "view A "

          Thanks Joe.

There's no part number assigned to the nut because the nut was not installed at St. Louis. It came as part of the complete steering linkage assembly. The only reason the torque is specified for the nut, at all, is because St. Louis needed to loosen and re-tighten the nuts at the time of final front end alignment.

Thanks again for your help. Is there any place to get missing pages for the AIM? When going through it, I found there were a lot of missing pages it seems.

I only have the "66" AIM , but if you send me your Fax # I will fax you the pages you lack, or I can also download them and email them , Assuming I have them , and you will settle for year older ones !

Dennis, send me an e-mail and I'll send you the page (from the 66 AIM. Info is the same) Whomever started printing the AIM had an incomplete version. Even some of the 67 reprints are not all the same as far as completeness. You can also find the page under a thread titled "1967 steering linkage?" I'd repost it here but the system won't let me do it.
