In addition to the continuing recognition of John Fitch and his important contributions to Corvette history, here is a shot of him behind the wheel of a 300 SL, yet another vehicle with which he was intimately involved. Photograph taken at Lime Rock Park in the Fall of 1974 when he was driving my 1956 Standwagen to reacquaint himself with the car's characteristics in preparation for an article he was writing which appeared in the Spring, 1975 issue of Automobile Quarterly.

The 50th Anniversary LeMans trip will be a wonderful experience - good fortune to all who are involved.

      Edward-

How very true, John has accomplished so much throughout his lifetime and he's still making strides to continue. I'm happy to be a part of this very small portion during the 2010 Le Mans race. Thanks for sharing the image - very cool!

I saw a stunning story of John driving a 300SL on the Bonneville Salt. Just an amazing story about an amazing man. And then there was his involvement with Corvair. John is truly a Renasance Man.

No doubt about that... the more I read and learn the more impressed I become. He's truly a legend!

            Thanks for your support.

I hope a Poster will be available of the picture. I would to see a good photo of it so I could use it as my Desk Top background.

I've been coorisponding with Kirk Bennion and things are looking very good for a poster of this print. I'll keep everyone in the loop as things progress.

                Cheers,

Lance, another nice print of the #3 is called "American Thunder-Le Mans 1960" by Nicholas Watts. It's a limited edition print signed by John Fitch and the artist. I purchased it at the 2003 Amelia Island Concours. That's the concours your father was going to show the #3 but it rained so hard Kevin & your dad decided not to take it off the truck...that was a shame. It was also the show all the Grand Sports were present and I had the good fortune to be standing with your dad taking pictures as they drove them to the front of the Ritz Carlton for a photo shoot..it's a moment I'll always remember. I also had the opportunity to see the #3 at Kevin's shop when it was stripped and just a shell...it was neat to see it in person.

Attached is a picture of the print hanging in my office.

Best of luck at Le Mans, I wish I could be there.

Lance, I had the privilege of sitting next to your dad at the Amelia Island Concoursseminar when Kevin and your dad made the decision to not take the car out into the downpour, and boy was it coming down! It was a big disappointment, but understandable.

                        Art,

Yes, my father was very upset about not being able to take the car out either. He didn't want to take it out in the rain/wind & etc. due to the fresh restoration. Nevertheless the car didn't do very well in Sunday's trailor either - Kevin had his hands full once the car returned back to his shop... youch!

The #3 arrives safely to the French port of Le Harve. Tonight the car will be transported down to the famous Le Mans Museum! On Monday the vehicle will be pulled out of the Museum for a photoshoot by Richard Prince along with it's older brothers (the C6.R's) right at the start/finish line of the Le Mans circuit!
