Re: Dynamat installation cutting down heat and judging.

    Joe,
I have installed Dynamat Extreme in a few of my cars ( 2 62 Corvettes and 1 65 coupe) and the results are great. Cut down on both heat and noise.
In the coupe I used it in the doors and the roof which quieted everything down a lot. Also did the doors in the 62s.
If the car is going to be judged I would assume if you can't see it when the carpet is installed it should not be a problem.
The best prices seem to be on Ebay but take the shipping into account as it can be expensive.

      Hi Bruce

          Hey Joe
What other internet options? Do you mean the mod-aholic forum(s)? The places that refer to NCRS people as a bunch of "weenies?" The ones that laughingly say they have a "Not Correctly Restored Stingray"? The same ones that complain about the prices being paid for Top Flight cars in one breath, then complain when they can't sell their self-engineered miracles for more than 25% of what they have spent? You are at the right place, if you place value on keeping your car correct.

Here is a quote from a typical poster on one of these boards under a thread titled "Matching Numbers vs Modified Value"

What really bothers me are the pinheads that buy these old collectable cars for their value like a painting or piece of art and then of course they don't drive it.

            Hi Joe,
One place the Interior judges might see the Dynamat is on the top of the transmission tunnel if the owner is asked to take the ashtray out. I saw it on two cars at Gettysburg while doing Operations.
            Regards,
            Alan

Welcome aboard! You will enjoy the vast wealth of information that can be had here. As for the point deduction, you have to ask yourself early on in a Corvette project if you want a points chasing car or a car original in appearance but takes advantage of some of the modern day technology. Nothing wrong with either and most of us have done both, it is strickly a personal choice. Whichever you choose you will benefit from the good people in this organization.

A very experienced interior judge might question the apparent extra thickness of the carpets with dynamat underneath, but that wouldn't stop me from installing it.

I like looking that these modified creatures. Particularily the suspensions. Some are very ingenious. But I also see them as future maintenance nightmares, particularily if the aftermarket company goes bankrupt or discontinues the items. More than likely these set-ups have never been tested for reliability. From these prospectives, I consider all modes as junk...but I still like looking at them.
