Thanks, Jack! That is exactly the horn I got off of eBay. This is going to make Don Cast happy.

Maybe a service replacement causing the difference or at lease two different designs for 72' ?? Steve
The large nut is generally regarded as an indicator of a service replacement horn. The replacement horns usually are provided as a kit with several mounting brackets. One choses the proper mounting bracket and orients the horn as necessary, and bolts them together. Thus one kit can fit many applications.

        Steve & Terry,
I'm not where I can examine the horn tonight but I believe the horn mounting arm is factory fixed, not a kit. The part number 9000 last 0 is over-stamped with 032. The date appears to be 1G3. I will reply to this tomorrow after I take a closer look at it and post a photo of it.

            Scott,

The horn on you '72 is the correct one. The '72 horn is larger than the '70-'71 horn, and a much wimpier sound. My original horn sounds more like the horn off a model A than off a "modern" car. Kind of a boop, boop sound instead of a loud "honk". Physically, the horns "look" the same, but the '72 is smaller.

              Re: Corvette horns

My 1970 with the two horns sounds great. I can't imagine why GM would want to go with one horn in 1972 that, according to some here, sounds that weak.
I paid less than $20 including shipping for the horn off of eBay. The seller had it listed incorrectly as an 072. The seller posted a correction after I questioned it being an 072 Corvette horn for a 1972. It was still painted over so it was hard to tell even from the close-up photos. After I received it I used lacquer thinner to be able to see the numbers and date of 1G3.
