    56 Corvette cooling fan

What is the difference between the engine cooling fan on a 56 Corvette and a 56 passenger car?

My 56 Corvette continues to overheat in stop and go traffic. I am wondering if I have the wrong fan on it.

No, I haven't installed a fan shroud yet.

I'm not sure there is a difference between the early Corvette 4-blade fan and that used on equivalent passenger cars. But, without the shroud around the radiator, you're losing forced convection efficiency!

The shroud is there to 'focus' air flow...suck fresh outise air through the radiator vs. simply 'stir' the air in the engine compartment...

Ed, I was doing some underhood work on the '57 years ago and removed the shroud. While driving around town in 75-80 degree weather it heated, which it had never done before in that situation. I replaced the shroud and the heating problem went away.

That is the answer I was looking for. A shroud will be ordered and installed soon. Thanks Steve.

Ed, I should have noted that the underhood work being done---I had just had the original radiator boiled and flushed and I drove it before installing the shroud, checking for leaks, etc. That is when it overheated.
