    C1 (1960) Fender Trim

The trim on my 1960 has dumb-dumb globbed around the small T-bolts that hold the trim on (see photo). Is this correct or a bubba-ism

I'm getting them ready to send out for repair/polishing and was going to remove all the dumb-dumb and the T-bolts, then reinstall after I get them back.

    Thanks,

My 60 had it on all studs and T-bolts that entered the pass. compartment. I assume it was installed at the factory to prevent water leaks.

Jim, I would agree that dumb-dumb around the bolt thread and hole itself to help prevent possible water penetration, but one of mine has it globbed around the T-bolt head and seems to be there to hold the T-bolt on the trim rather than prevent water penetration inside the car.

My question was really is the dumb-dumb used to hold the T-bolts in place on the trim, or just in the hole of the fender to prevent water penetration?

The sealer can be used to prevent water getting in the car. Of course it is probably only needed where the t-bolt is behind the kick panel.
The threaded t-bolt with nut (possibly a flat washer) is what holds the trim on.

My original trim '57 had it on all T's in summer '65 when I repainted, but not as much as in your pic.

I remember it (vaguely) on all t-bolts on my '59. I think it's an assembly aid.

Make sure when you put the trim back on you USE the dumb dumb.

Otherwise you will need drain holes in the floor to let the water out.
