    C3-1 pc front clip

Has anyone used a one piece front clip, if so what are your comments? I'm not really sure I would want to use one, considering fit and value concerns.
    Thanks

    Gary,
I have used one with GREAT results, but I would say that is dependent on what your plans are for the car. Saves many $$$ when you need to replace the whole clip, in time and material You can purchase a 1 piece unit with the bonding strips glued underneath, so as to give original appearance. I do not know how these stand up to the discretion of the judges if that is the route you are seeking, so I would certainly want to hear from someone who has seen them in a judging situation if those are your plans.

See the current NCRS Judging Reference Manual's Standard Deductions section. The current rule on on 1-piece front ends is a MASSIVE hit on the judging field!

I'm not too big on using one, the people I know who have did have a lot of Fitment issues with them. Some of these were years ago so I want to see if the QC has changed on them or not.
What are the Pros/Cons between the Press molded and hand laid?
Other then judging is there anything to be concerned about for a street car that is driven and used at the track from time to time. Are they as strong and durable as the original?

Like any aftermarket part, you probably WILL encounter some fitment issues. Heck, even the factory original, multi-piece, system that was jig assembled had unit to unit geometry differences...

On press molded vs. hand laid, the factory original panels were press molded and savvy judges can 'feel' the difference between a press molded and hand laid panel (deals with the surface texture). Press molded fiberglass 'tends' to be more dense than an equivalent hand laid panel, but that depends on due diligence of the hand laid fabricator...

Those who are pro's in executing fiberglass panel repair CAN duplicate/rival the density of a press molded part by laying down MULTIPLE thin layers of hand laid glass to build up the repaired area. But, this is a labor of love that's NOT typical of off-the-shelf hand laid panels you purchase commercially.

Hey, for a driver application, the labor savings of mating and bonding individual panels is a REAL advantage. I presume that's why our current judging standards extract such a heavy deduction for the use of a 1-piece front clip. But, I'd expect the 1-piece clip, if installed properly, to be as, if not more, durable than the factory original counterpart.

            Gary,

hand laid parts tend to be 2-3 times thicker than press moulded parts and cause fit issiues with every part you will put back on. IE: parking light studs too short as well as grill surround parts. You will have to alter bumper brackets and bolts to compensate for the extra space and on and on. I would avoid it unless it is a total custom car.
