Locating gauge width is 0.646" (the important dimension), by 1/8" thick. No length is given, but a Long Island gauge I have is about 3 inches long; it was much thinner, at (guessing) 0.05", which made it easy to make a 90 degree bend, which serves as a handle.

The first 2 measurements are from '65 Corvette Shop Manual, which continues with another ~8 lever/rod adjustment steps. I'm sure they apply to all 4-speed linkages for the '64-7 years.

        Joe,
Doubt you can by the gage at a parts store. I got mine from Long Island Corvette, but a guy could make the same thing out of heavy gauge sheet metal if you had the dimensions. It is about the same size as a tongue depressor only shorter.

        Regards,
        Dale

The gage dimensions are shown in Section 7 of the Chassis Service Manual. It's 1/8" thick stock, .646" wide, and 3" long. Bend as necessary for insertion clearance.

I tried for weeks to locate the tool.I called dozens of Muncie Dealers. The manual has the dementions. Home Depot has 1/8 inck ALU. stock that you can tripple up to make the correct 3/8 width. I have the drawing but don't know how to produce it here. Jeff

If you do adjust the shifter with the trans in the car I'd like to see the gage you ended up using; I couldn't get anything to work with the trans in. I adjusted my linkage when I did a clutch job while the trans was out.

                Hi,
Bubba is alive and doing some of his best/worst work in Westminster.
He made the gauge from a Shur-Line white plastic paint scraper from Home Depot.

Here's the Long Island piece. 3" long; I bent it to form a handle -- use as shown. The thickness doesn't really matter, as long as it doesn't bend when inserting in groove/slot. This one is only 0.035" thick, but it's made of stiff stainless. It's the 0.646" width that is crucial.

On a 67 the li9nkage mounts to the chassis and not the transmission, but
it can be done. I made my own tool from 1/8" stock at work and milled to the exact dimension. I cheated on the in car adjustment though, I had my daughtter hold the tool while I worked the linkages. I still have my Bubba tool in my box......somewhere. I do remember seeing it a short time ago, just not where.

I made a tool out of an old beer can opener. I adjusted the linkage in the car.... tough job getting the "tool" in place.... had to shorten and bend it to get it into the slot. Actual adjustment was easy.

We used an old feeler gage on a '66 and bent it at an angle. It worked great.

I made a "bubba" tool from aluminum siding. The thickness of the material doesn't matter just the width does. I still have the tool, but only used it once. The advantage of using the thin aluminum is that it was easy to bend.

                            "Gauge" not needed.
It's tough to insert the "gauge", and easier to do it without.
