    Dual snorkle air cleaner base

I just chemically removed the layers of paint on my air cleaner base and found that it appears to be plated, is that correct or do I have a repro piece.

Also, I'm under the impression that the air cleaner bases were painted gloss black at the factory. Is that how they should appear for judging. I don't have my JM here but remember reading that the paint job was poor and it easily faded over time. Thanks!

Yes, they were painted gloss black while hung from a hook. One can often see the shadow of the hook -- bare steel underneath. I don't know if they were painted at St. Louis, or delivered there already painted -- probably doesn't matter too much which it was. I have never seen one plated under the paint, but then I haven't seen all of them.

      Terry -

They were painted at AC, and received at St. Louis as a complete assembly, needing only the wingnut, flame arrestor, vent hose/elbow, and horsepower sticker to be added.
