    I just can't do it !

Hi, as many of you know , I am preparing my car for a 48 state trip this summer, just driving and visiting long time car owners.

My 66 L79 Roadster ( owned for 40 years ) is in the final stage of restoration, and is being painted now.

The car was Milano Maroon, and 37 years ago, I changed it to a dark British Racing Green. It has a saddle interior, leather seats, tan cloth top.

Well, for this trip, and my 40th year of ownership, I decided to paint it back to 988 Milano Maroon. I did not want to explain why it was not original color to everyone on this trip.

Well , I got a call from my painter and he said I should come over and see if I like the color.

I have posted some pictures of the car , and after seeing it , I have decided to go back to BRG. I never liked the color (maroon) and since I have to drive the car every day and live with it for I hope many years, back it goes to my favorite color.

Just thought I would share this with you. I should have the car back in two weeks, and back goes all the parts that I took out to paint. I have a full gallon of Spies Hecker base coat if some one wants great paint for their Milano Maroon paint job #988 trim

Look forward to seeing all of you in August.

    Jack

They say that people that like green have a higher IQ than those that don't.

(British Racing Green, or Glen Green, is a very pleasing color on a car)

It's your car, do what you want. There's no need to explain anything to anyone. BRG/tan is an awesome combination. Looking forward to meeting you this summer.

        Re: I just can't do it !

I never have figured out the aversion to green cars. What color is U.S. money? What is the terminology for preserving the environment?

I have a green 1972 Corvette; my daily transportation is a green Yukon; and I once owned a green 1969 Z28. None of them was necessarily my first choice--I just happened to find each at the right time and the right price. The color did not keep me from purchasing.

Look at sales numbers from the 1960s and early 1970s and you will find that green quite often was the best selling color.

I love that maroon. Looks great to me.

            But, I don't like green...

No explanation necessary, nor should you be asked. It is your car and you must do what pleases you.

I agee with you, I never liked Maroon and wondered why GM would even make it. On the other hand, I think Mosport Green was the best color GM ever did. BRG is not bad either, but you got to enjoy your car so make it your color. Hope you come through NM, maybe my Mosport can meet your BRG.

I once had a 70 roadster in Donneybrook Green with a black interior. The car was beautiful and glistened like an emerald. BUT, I still like the original color for your car.

Good luck with your final decision.

Here is a map link. It shows my approximate route. Starts in Maine head west by northwest and then south pacific coast. West across southwest , south, southeast, mid Atlantic and northeast back to Maine.

I start Aug 2, and hope end Nov. about 90 days and 12,000 miles

I think there is a regional in Albuquerque in the fall.

I liked my 1970's Donnebrooke Green 40 years ago when I bought it new. I repainted it in 91 the same color.

Jack, paint it what you like. My first vette was an Elkhart Green 72 with saddle interior. It wouldn't have been my first choice, but it was a great one owner car with low milage and several thousand under value so it became mine. After I rubbed out the original laquer and the shine came back it became a lot easier to look at. Go with your heart and call me in Denver when you get here @ 303-520-6363 and me and my 63 Saddle tan/saddle tan fuely coupe will welcome you. Iv'e owned it since 1978 and have put over 80k miles on it. Most of it with no paint. Good road tripping.
                              It's a good life!
