Re: Correct idle solenoid for '72 LT-1?
If memory serves, the solenoid bracket installed to the base of the carb using two hex-head bolts through a French lock assy. Then, the idle stop solenoid installed to the bracket using a large hex head nut and another French lock assy.
If you want a factory concours correct installation, you'll need the bracket to carb French lock along with the solenoid to bracket French lock.
On the bolts that hold the bracket to the carb base, there seems to be a judging controversy over whether the factory original bolts were gold dichomate finished (matches the carb base plate, bracket and French lock finish) or whether they were black oxide finished. Personally, it doesn't make much sense to me that the finish on the bolts would differ from the cosmetics of the surrounding parts...
But, the same setup with a different idle stop solenoid was used on '71 LT1 and LS6 cars. That's where I've heard of judges differing in opinion as to the 'correct' factory finish of the bracket to carb mounting bolts...
