Re: Correct idle solenoid for '72 LT-1?

If memory serves, the solenoid bracket installed to the base of the carb using two hex-head bolts through a French lock assy. Then, the idle stop solenoid installed to the bracket using a large hex head nut and another French lock assy.

If you want a factory concours correct installation, you'll need the bracket to carb French lock along with the solenoid to bracket French lock.

On the bolts that hold the bracket to the carb base, there seems to be a judging controversy over whether the factory original bolts were gold dichomate finished (matches the carb base plate, bracket and French lock finish) or whether they were black oxide finished. Personally, it doesn't make much sense to me that the finish on the bolts would differ from the cosmetics of the surrounding parts...

But, the same setup with a different idle stop solenoid was used on '71 LT1 and LS6 cars. That's where I've heard of judges differing in opinion as to the 'correct' factory finish of the bracket to carb mounting bolts...

Ken, the green lead connects to the temp sensor on the pass side rear cylinder head, it also has a jumper lead on it also, because the sender on the cylinder head has two terminals, The TCS solonoid has two termianls , the colors I believe are dark blue and tan?( Don't have may car in front of me)

I stopped at NAPA today and their Holley book showed french locks and bolts for an idle solenoid. But he said they were for a FORD! So I'm going to bring in the part numbers of the solenoid and carb (I have an incorrect 3310-2 carb, which seems almost identical to the correct 6239 carb) I'm also going to see if they have a correct looking choke pull off, so I can ditch the electric choke set up. Who would have thought years ago that carb parts would be so hard to find? But I'm one of the ones who removed A.I.R. setups and tossed them!
