    Hardtop Assembly History?

I have never read or seen any factory photos of hard tops being assembled. Does anyone know where these were done and by whom, GM or an outside supplier?

    Thank you,
    Rick

    Rick -

C1 hardtops were received fully assembled and painted from a contracted outside supplier, and midyear hardtops were painted and assembled in-house at St. Louis.

John, do you know who the supplier was for C1? Also, my original headliner on th e'57 is starting to come loose on the sides. Is there an effective way to reglue? Remove and reglue whole thing, try to reglue sides (4-6 inches long) without removing healdliner---?

      Thanks!

        Steve -

George Barlos (plant process engineer) told me what supplier built the C1 hardtops years ago, but I don't recall who it was. Can't help you with the hardtop headliner - I haven't worked on one, but someone who has will chime in.

          Steve,
My old 57 hardtop has the headliner starting to lift at 2 corners. I tried to glue it back down but the thin foam backing keeps crumbling therefore the glue won't hold.
I did try and hold the headliner down with some wood blocks and paint sticks and then gently heated it with a heat gun and it has stayed pretty flat. I also scrapped some of the foam backing off at the edge and had some luck glueing it back down.

Its been about two years since I restored my 58 hardtop but I think I remember Sterling Precision Plastics as the logo embedded in the fiberglass. It was centered in the fiberglass part covered by the headliner.
