    Brake Fluid

The article? Anyway, when you put water in silicone they will be to seperate liquids that you can see correct? water in dot three will somewhat mix or be murky? tried this with the fluid in my existing MC and water reacted the same as testing the new silicone with water then put water in some old dot three and it was murky and kind of mixed when I stirred it. New silicone is kind of light purple and fluid in MC is kind of golden, what is correct? Thanks, Brad.

That is absolutely correct Brad regarding the water in the different fluids.

DOT5, when new, is dyed purple -- but that die fades in a couple of years and the color is a light brown or golden -- just like a nice clean DOT 3 or 4. So after a couple of years there is no visual indication of the type of brake fluid installed. Thus the reason for the test with water.

No need to drain your system, simply top off with fresh DOT 5. I flushed my DOT 5 system after 20 or 25 years, but I did it for peace of mind, not for any real good reason.

Terry, peace of mind is a darn good reason.
