    Mid-Year Parking Brake Disassembly?

I am finally getting the car back together and have come to the parking brake handle assembly. I haven't been able to go any farther than the pictures. My thought is if I remove the square top stud that engages the parking brake warning light the shaft will slide out and that will solve my problem. But the stud doesn't appear to be threaded or welded in place.
    Any advice would be appreciated,
    Pete

    Pete -

The stud is a press-fit in the hole in the shaft.

John - I was afraid of that. Probably isn't worth the risk to remove and try press and JB Weld it back in. Anybody try?

        Hi Peter,
I took mine apart last month and posted a description of how I did it. Gentle tapping will remove the stud. Once out the cable can be withdrawn from the tube and then disconnected.
