Removing Paint from 63 Steering Wheel

I have a red 63 steering wheel in great condition that was painted black. I'm trying to find the best way to remove the black paint. I've heard brake fluid, oven cleaner, and saw acetone in one post.

Anyone with a solution?

Tough call Steven...

Anything that will chemically strip paint may harm the plastic wheel. Try to find an old junk wheel to experiment with. The DOT 3 brake fluid sound like a good one to start with.

I just used Carb Cleaner to remove paint from some suspension parts. They were metal, not plastic, so use caution.

Do not use carb or brake cleaner on the wheel. It WILL attack the plastic.
