The rear of the passenger side valve cover is to have an engine suffix code label. Do any 74' owners with an L48 have this label and if so can you post a picture?

These labels were never designed to last. Their function was strictly in-plant, easy engine identification. Whatever adhesive was used was not, at all, heat resistant or in any way durable. So, in most cases, these stickers quickly fell off. The labels, themselves, were pretty much just plain paper so they weren't really very durable, either. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 73/74 Judging Guide Items - item 4
Thanks - I questioned this item in the judging guide only because I checked several of the aftermarket vendor catalogues and none sell this item although they do sell them for other (earlier) years. Also the judging guide specifies a decal on the fan shroud which I am about 95% certain is not correct as I believe the fan shroud decal was only used in 73' so that did not give me great confidence in the judging guide relative to decals in general.- Top

There is at least one source of accurate reproductions, but it's not the catalogs.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Well I would have posted it, but I already have and VBuliten will not let me do it again and I am dis-inclined to go through the BS required to re-post the picture.

You just might find what you want with a search. At the minimum you will learn about how each year and sometimes each engine had very different labels. Oh, and they sometimes changed during the year. Can't you see those engineers sitting around their drafting tables 35 years ago saying: "We'll get those NCRS geeks?"Terry- Top

Re: 73/74 Judging Guide Items - item 4
My 74' was built in July of 73' It never had a fan shroud decal. I saw that in the judging manual and thought it might be a mistake. I remember those valve cover stickers you are referring to, but mine are long gone. Sorry- Top

Glenn, are you sure on this??? 1973s I believe were made up to August 9th of '73, if I'm remembering correctly. My 1974 #01950 was built B08(second month of production), Sept 8, 1973. First production month for even the earliest 1974 Corvette was August of '73.- Top
