    73/74 Judging Guide Items - Item 5

The timing tab is attached by timing cover bolts in 74' not welded as in 73'. Both my engine and my son's (both numbers matching) are welded. Do any 74' owners also have a timing tab not attached by bolts?

Knowing the approximate VINs of your Corvettes would help on this one, as well as whether 350 or 454.

Thanks Martin. My engine timing tab looks just like yours as best I can tell. I would say your timing tab must be spot welded to the cover like mine appears to be. Certainly not bolted. I think the judging guide is in error. Since you have an L48 convertible built relatively close to mine can you comment on any of the other questions I posted?

The timing tab is in fact spot welded to the timing cover.
In regards to your P/S pulley I believe Lyle's comment to be correct. My L-48 has A/C with the stamped P/S pulley numbered; 3770509.
As far as your A/C line question, are you refering to the high pressure side with the sight glass in it? Can you post a picture of the hose/line in question?

If I read the judging guide correctly the lines in question are those that run forward to the AC radiator located in front of the engine radiator. The lines are easily seen from the side of the car if you stand where the AC compressor is located. On mine one line is rubber and runs to the top of the AC radiator and the other is metal and runs to the bottom of the AC radiator. Here is the quote from the judging guide: "In 1974 the return line is changed from a metal tube to a rubber hose. The hoses have protection as they pass through the inner fender and radiator support". Since these two sentences are together I am assuming they refer to the lines that run through the inner fender and radiator support. Perhaps the first sentence is referring to some other line in the AC system.

The timing tab is welded both years.

That makes a LOT more sense than what was written: we went from a welded timing tag, to a bolted on timing tab, then back to a welded timing tag for ONE year, and finally back to a bolt-on tag!!!
