      Hi John,
I'm sorry I forgot to respond to your reply to my question.
I'm still deciding about the exhaust for my 71 and appreciate you taking the time to describe what you were thinking!
      Thanks Again !!
      Regards,

        Re: 1969 Exhaust Question

        The system is installed.

The pipes fit perfectly. The only problem were the two guillotine clamps. The rolled section where the u-bolt passes opened up when tightening requiring a small weld.

The stock sound isn't exciting, but the car sounds so much better without any leaks and the shiny pipes with ripple bends look great.

One of my chrome tips was cut and welded back in the 80s by a bad installer so I have SS tips on right now. I could had made the old tip work by welding on some pipe but the result would have looked bad and lost points anyway. I'm looking to buy a chrome tip (or pair) if anyone has a source or an old tip in good condition I'd appreciate the lead.

          John,
Those original tips sometimes apear on eBay. I have 2 pair that I got that way and have 1 rechromed. The second is welded up and going to the chromer soon. Sometimes NOS (service replacements) show up (very expensive) but most I have sen are used and need work.

            Hi John,
            Thanks for the update!
Since I last posted I've ordered a aluminized system from CC and also ordered (and received) a set of 70-72 chrome tips from Richard Fortier. I realize they aren't for your car, but I thought I'd add it to the thread since they are really something and other readers might be interested. I guess they're one of the very few reproductions that live up to their description.
I hope your car continues to do well when judged at Sacramento!
            Regards,
            Alan

              Re: 1969 Exhaust Question

Just curious... on a factory welded exhaust, was there a welded joint before the 45 degree bend at the muffler or was the pipe not continuous and welded to the flat surface of the muffler? I always thought you had to cut the pipes and replacement mufflers had the short pipe with the expanded joint to make the repair. If that is the case, how are the welded pipes from venders supplied? Chip.
