    C2 Rear suspension

    Hi Guys,
I have searched the archives but have not found an answer to my 2 (immeidate) problems.

I have disassembled and removed most components of the rear end/suspension of my '64. I will need to install new bushings in the trailing arms (at their forward pivot points). My manual describes flairing the bushing with a special tool which I obviously don't have. Has anyone found a solution to the lack of this tool, or is there someone that has the tooling to do this for a fee?

After dropping the differential and rear spring I tried to remove the rear suspension crossmember. The manual seems to indicate that it is just a matter of removing the 2 bolts that pass through the center of the rubber cushions. I removed them and the cross member stayed in place. I tried gently prying with a crowbar. Nothing moved. Do I need to just get bad with it or is there something missing from the shop manual?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Doug, the rear axle support will need much more than a gentile tug, if its never been down in all these years you'll have to give it big a tug.( make sure supported well)

Sorry have no idea on the trailing arm bushings w/o the tool maybe someone has made up something that will work.

Do a search on Gary Ramadei - he has posted a link to a step by step for such a project. If these are not done correctly they have tendency to slip out and then you get to do all over again.

          Doug,
          I used a 6' persuader.
I only loosened the two attaching crossmember bolts about 1 1/2 turns and kept the floor jack under the center sention about a 1/2" below. You'll know when the cushion releases from the sombrero of the crossmember.

If you're pulling down the diff then this thread my also help. I wrote it a few years ago and no longer send out the rebuild paper as some took advantage of this in the wrong way.
