    Need a part I can't find anywhere!

1970 Corvette, my headlight washer leaks until it empties all the water from the reservoir. I know there is a check valve behind the headlights, but I can't find one anywhere to purchase. Any help will be appreciated.

Ebay, for one. Also, don't forget that the umbrella valves in the washer pump can contribute to this problem if they're too stiff. Good luck.

I do not believe these valves are available as a repro. I am nearing completion on my 70 and we reused tne original valves. Your best bet might be to check some of the companies that sell used parts. I've had luck with Corvette USA. They routinely advertise in the Driveline.

They do not make this valve anywhere. You have to check on e-bay or swap meets. The last 2 Corvettes at Carlisle I was fortunate to find several and will be looking again this year. I think I'm down to one or two left right now. Sometimes they are solid black, other times they are black in the center barrel and white on the ends and also white in the center and black on the ends.

These are a one way check valve so the best way to see if it is working is to blow into the center nipple on the valve and then try to suck out air. If you are able to suck air out of the center nipple the valve might leak (not always but it is possible).

I have seen these sell for 10.00 for one to 300.00 for a set on line. Price will be cheaper at a swap meet.

              Ed,

I never thought of that! It would have to work with fluids so that might cause a problem. If you did use something else you would have to "Hide" it in the vacuum line pile so a judge would not pick up on it!!

Rich, My reason for asking is that I have a small one way vaccum check valve, it has small dia hose connections and about 1 1/2 inchs long, Hose dia. connections are about the size of a vaccum advance hose . Is this the same size as the factory? If so maybe it would work for Jim.

I have a friend in the pool business and they use small check valves for something. Check a pool supply store. You may have to do some adapting, but I can guarantee you they will be less than $300 and they go in a hard to see location so configuration is not much of an issue.

69's use 2 1 is hidden and one is up by the wiper motor in plain sight. I don't know about 70. In the 69 AIM you see refrence to it in several locations.

Also, if you check ebay (and I'm sure several other places) you can find many other anti-siphon tees for modern car washer pump systems that I bet would work for a Vette. For example:

Rich, that is a different valve and nipple size.
