Upper A arm cross shafts - not the same

I have searched around and cant find anything about different upper cross shafts. The bottom one is the right. I think this came on the car. No part number on it.

Harry. the pic of the bottom shaft w/o part numbers is like the ones on my 72 coupe, maybe its a later replacement. or even a the cross over year, Where the factory could have used one of each on some cars.

Allen, mine also has 1038 on the other side. Thanks for posting.

Edward, I think the last time my car was driven was 1972, at least that was the last registration. There was right front damage that would explain the possible part replacement. Thanks.

          Harry,

sometime in 66 they started to change from the square shaft to the round shaft. I restored a late 66 that had one round and one square shaft. Both were original to the car.

              Hi Harry.
You just haven't looked in the right place.
The newly revised '66 JG, pg. 155, has the description, with pictures.
"Original upper "A" arm cross shafts have "round" elevated area where the arm attaches to the retaining threaded studs. Early "A" arm cross shaft profiles are square. Known original cars have been observed with both styles, left, or right until approximately late December, 1965."

Hey Mike, thanks for the responce. I have the old JG and have been meaning to get the new one. My car has a 1/12/66 build date so what you say makes sense.
