58 Corvette Under Dash Light / Switch?

Hi,

Can someone tell me, next to the courtesy light in the dash of a 58 there is a switch. What does that switch do and where can I buy one? It is almost directly over the radio on the bottom side of the center dash, next to the courtesy light.

If there actually a switch and not just a hole, start looking for the missing pieces of your power top (most often referred to as $@&*$%! power top).

I'll try to post pictures when my camera charges. What are other tell tell signs of a power soft top. There is no motor in the trunk.

Dave,

you should still see signs of the motor mounting holes as well as possibly monting holes for the hoses (I can't remember if the hoses had clips or not)

That's what I figured. I do not see those holes in the divider between the trunk and convertible top area.

here are some pics from a 58 power top car, looks like the switch maybe just a ignition kill switch and bubba cut up your top well a little

My 60 had that exact switch. Since mine is a hardtop only car, it certainly wasn't for the power top. I agree with Doug, it was probably added as a kill switch.

Electric fuel pump mounted in trunk? I put my switch on the side of the console.

It'd have to be a three post, double throw switch to power to the antenna motor for UP and DOWN. Switch shown appears to have only two posts for simple On/Off operation.

Hi Guys,

With the wires cut and no evidence of an aftermarket ignition system or fuel pump, it must have been for a battery disconnect. Anyway, back to work. Thanks for all the replies.

It'd have to be a three post, double throw switch to power to the antenna motor for UP and DOWN. Switch shown appears to have only two posts for simple On/Off operation.

I just installed a power antenna on my 59. it's just an on/off switch. "on" it goes up, "off" down. You can wire it into the Wonderbar radio's on/off switch if you want, but I didn't want to remove the radio, open it up and cut and solder in some wires. Did this because of the car cover.
