Converting from Automaic to 4 Speed

Hi All;

I'm thinking about beginning another project, perhaps putting together a nice C3 driver... I have been looking at various sites, and plan on a Carlisle trip as well, to look for something to start with. What I have been seeing, at least in the realm of "inexpensive" C3's are cars from the mid 70's which is fine, but most of them seem come with an automatic.

Question, in general, how difficult is it to convert an automatic car to a 4 speed? I have most of the drive train parts already and I know about the swap of the pedal assembly... I suspect there may be some model year specifics... but an anyone provide some commentary as to how difficult this is to do and what to look out for?

That's because by that time in the history of Corvette, the Powerglide was history and the 3-speed AT had a solid reputation making it a popular option.

If you want to take a factory original AT car and 'modify' it, why not consider replacing the THD auto with a more modern auto (e.g. 700-R4) and get overdrive for convenience/fuel economy at highway speeds?
