    1953 #13

I am just starting the restoration on #13 and there seems to be alot of different items (I restored #141 and 145 , and am using those as my guide.

    1. The metal soft top cover brackets are different , as they are 2 pieces of metal to make one cover.
    2. gas pedal has the word " blackhawk " on the back.
    3. Deck lid and trunk lid hindges are embossed on the side, twice as thick and made out of aluminum
4.oak sill plate filler boards were stamped with a gm number and date 5 7 53
    5. Hood stops were of a hard rubber with a slanted top. Not like the 56 57 stops
    6. speaker had a delco radio decal
    7. on the back side side of the dash on the metal bracket that holds the gaugers is the number 13.
8.Part of the screen mesh in the trunk is not completely covered and lots of drips on the inside trunk surround.

    Ay comments
    Thanks,

Earlier you get in '53 production, the more strange stuff you will find.

AGREE.....And there was a great story about the car in the RESTORER back in the day. Not sure of the date, but try 1988 and 1989 as they bought the car as a trio at the very first Rick Cole Monterey Auction in 1987, which today is RM's great show every August.

          Hello Steven;

Was 141 the Corvette reportedly used in most of the advertising of the day?

          Thanks.

There are some good quotes about early 53 production in Ken Kayser's History of Fuel Injection that might be of interest to you. I was looking at it over the weekend and seem to remember him saying the first 20 cars or so were used internally with several going to the Duponts.

It is unknown how many prototypes were made prior to production but probably more than most know about. Carefully log all the unique details you encounter. Information about the first cars is scarce.

Do you have history on #13?

              Joe
