My 67 has a handle/wrench that has the number 265 cast into it with what looks like and E or and F below it on the exterior of the socket. It also, on the same area on the other side has USA vertically cast into it. I thought these just had an O in this area. Is this the correct handle for my 67?? Thanks.

Re: C2 Jack handle / wrench
John,
Here's what the 4th edition 1967 JG says: "The wheel wrench is a 3/4-inch hex-head socket attached to a stamped " U " shaped handle. A rubber boot surrounds the socket end. The handle has three punched holes: one hole in each side which line up with each other, and a third in the " U " of the handle." (p. 44)
I think the one below is correct, but I hadn't heard about the "O" marking before. Is that it in the first picture?- Top

Re: C2 Jack handle / wrench
Here are some photos of what I am talking about. My car is very original, jack is dated 7D, car assembly is June, so just want to make sure I am not replacing something that is original. Can anyone comment on what this handle is, car application, if not vette? It sure look period correct considering its finish and the rivet with the bullseye or circular pattern on it. Also, the hole on the top of the handle looks a bit larger than what I have seen before. Any help would be much appreciated.
Note the S in USA is backwards!- Top

Re: C2 Jack handle / wrench
Scott, I believe (but I am no expertthe O is on the 45% angle on the exterior of the socket. It is also cast into it, not stamped. One other item to note is the rivet that holds the socket to the handle. Yours does not appear to have the circular pattern on it, but it is hard to tell from the photo.

I checked my back issues of Restorer on CD, and there are only 4 articles on jacks, with nothing specific about handles that I saw. I checked my jack handle and did not see any "O" on the angular part of the socket. Also, my Jack is different, in that it is dated "C 7" instead of year first, month second. One of the articles mentioned that someone else reported their date reversed, but that the norm was year first.
The other problem is that the car was built on January 11, 1967. According to the information I have been able to find so far, there were no date codes on model year 1966 jacks, and early production '67s may not have a date code, and dates for Jacks begins with "A" for January, "B" for February, and so on.
If that is the case, mine should be "7 A", not "C 7". I don't know why someone would go to the trouble to obtain an incorrect date jack at some point in this car's early history. I have not found anything in the receipt file going back to February 1974 indicating that the jack was ever replaced.- Top
