    1967 Power Steering Belt

Can someone tell me the correct length for the power steering belt on my 67 327/300hp no A/C. I have a old GM belt # 9433725 that's 36.5" but I can't find the listing in my old parts book. I would think the 1963-5 35" belt would be correct because the pulleys are the same.

Crankshaft pulley is #232 and P/S pump pulley is #509. Is this crankshaft add on pulley still available from GM and how much should I expect to pay for a new pulley, mine has a wobble. Love the P/S on the car..

    Thanks for the help...

    Timothy -

The '66 AMA specifications call for a 36.25" P/S belt. The pulley configurations are the same for both years. The alternator belt is 53.25" long. Of course the "V" angle is 38-42 degrees and it is .38" wide.

      Thanks Mark,

I am curious about the length because I think the 63-65 belt is 35" and the pulleys are the same for the low hp cars... If that's true why the 36+ " belt for 66-7.

The reason you cannot find the part number in the older parts books is that the General, over the years, changed all belt numbers to a 9******* number.

          Thanks Dick,

That still does not explain why the 63-65 35" belt is not called out for the 1966-67 same pulley set up.

              Mark,

The L-79 has a different pulley arrangement using a cast iron P/S pump pulley that lines with the #533 double groove crank pulley. The diameter of these pulleys is probably different so the belt may be different.

Low hp used the same pulley arrangement as 63-5 but the belt call out is different.

                Timothy -

Yes I charted the '65 - '67 pulley configurations and have the drawings. The P/S pumps changed during the model years. This may have also required different mounting brackets too. I have not looked into those revisions. The '66 AMA just lists specifications; the '67 probably does the same. It does not indicate if it fits or works under restored and service replacement conditions. Just a reference point.

                  Mark,

Good point about the P/S pump brackets as I know they changed by 67 to the style with the tubes where the two bolts hold the pump to the block.

I also know the 63 P/S adjustment bracket that bolts to the motor mount is shaped a bit different than the later bracket but I am not sure how any of this affects the belt. The resto package for my 67 says 36.25" for low hp /W power steering.
