    57 hood latches/catch

my hood keeps poping up on rough roads and i know i have read somewhere about how to fix these. i believe Roy wrote an article but couldn't find it in "search" mode. can someone explain the fix to me. i heard about removing the female latch and grind so you have sharp (not smooth edge) for the male end to fit.

    thanks

Correct file the female LIP ( they get rounded ) and some times tilt or shim the upper two bolts will help original will have logo
also ajusting the male stop to keep it from moving

Chris, I also had a problem with the hood on my '57 popping up on rough surfaces and bumps and have tried Roy's suggestions years ago. They work. I also had worn males. I replaced them with originals from GM (in 1964). Worn parts and alignment will all contribute to the hood popping up.

      Good Luck!

At Bend Or. Next month I've been asked to put on a seminar on how to adjust 53 to 57 hoods on Sat. I'll show how to do it with out drilling or elongating holes, and why GM used pop-ups. At the radiator .I think I covered it on this forum once?
Hasn't some one done a article in the restorer on the hood adjustment yet

I volunteer my '57 for you to "fix" at your seminar as a demo car.

I'll give you a ride in it for $20K. Come to think of it, I'll give you $20K if you just fix the hood

so adjust the stops so there is no give with the hood gasket? i think mine are rounded. Think i need to pull them to file sharp.

Once the hood line is nice around the back area (closed) adjust the male stop so there is no movement when you push down with your hand , that way it cant giggle loose.
