    Couple of questions

    1. What size screw is used on a 74's front grill? There are two screws which hold the marker lights in the outer upper corners of the grills. All four heads broke off and I am having them taken out. If I have to insert heli-coils I would like to put in the proper thread size. They look like 8-32.

    2. Can I sandblast my intake manifold, before I paint it?

    3. Can anyone recommend a good machine shop in the Parker/Denver, CO area. I need to have work done on the block and heads.

    4. My friend needs to install body mounts to his 72', these mounts go right behind the front wheel well openings. There are, I believe five holes; blind holes at that. It looks like the original rivets were body rivets with a large flat head, but there is no room to get anything behind to flatten the rivet. A pop rivet could be used, but is it stong enough and it is also not correct. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Todd

    Re: Couple of questions

Todd, here's a couple of hints to use when creating a thread. Use the year model icon instead of the question mark to ID the thread. Also, put the specific year in the thread title. Doing both will get your thread more attention by the TDB members who are knowledgeable for your year model. Also, the year model icons are a great sort tool. JMTCW, Gary....

      Todd,

I can't speak to the C3 specific questions, but sandblasting an intake is kinda risky. If a rouque grain of blasting media lingers and later decides to take a ride into your combustion chamber, you may have more trouble to deal with than you want.

If you feel like you can seal up the manifold well enough to endure the blasting and prevent media from getting inside, go for it.

If you glass bead the intake you must remove the heat shield from the underside. This is one of the places that stray beads hide and will get into your motor and cause trouble.

Thanks Gary for the posting tips.

Also thanks for the sandblasting tips, I think I will not be media blasting the intake. Once it is together, that is how I would like it to remain.

Todd, If the body mounts on that 1972 are in that bad shape he should check the birdcage very thoroughly for rust. Where there is a little rust there is usually a lot more. If he finds birdcage rust there will be no doubt about how to access the backside of those body mount rivets. I suspect they will be exposed.
