Jack Panzica Is At The Cortland Exit Of Rt. 81 (south Of Syracuse) With A Dead Fuel Pump. Is There Any Member Nearby That Could Run Down There And Lend A Hand? The Battery In His Cell Phone Is Almost Dead Also, But He Is Going To Try And Call Me In A Few Minutes From A Mcdonalds Restaurant. Please Advise. Thanks -dan-

Re: Emergency
Jack is back on the road again, but not sure the car is fixed and won't konk out again. Did not replace the fuel pump. Will advise when (hopefully when) he gets to my house. If he can get to my place I have a rebuilt 00083 fuel pump I can give him. He is about 1-1/2 hours away. (I also have a beer I can supply him with). I think he could probably use one by now. -Dan-- Top

Re: Emergency
If this problem persists after replacing the pump (which I think it will ,vapor lock ) I would install a holley 7 psi electric fuel pump for the trip. Its gonna be alot hotter in the south west than this is in NY. I did this to a few drivers for customers both small and big block. Never had a starvation problem again.
If the car starts up and runs 20 mins to an hour later you can bet it's vapor lock.

Re: Emergency
Jack is holed up in Cortland for the night. Did not get a block down the road and it quit again. No gas coming out of the pump. Local has a new pump and will install it tomorrow morning (his pump is 30 years old). Rich, your advice about an electric pump is valid. I will talk to him about it
He has a motel for the night and the local shop even gave him use of his truck for the night to find a restaurant with. Cortland is not a bad town - I have been there several times. He should be here sometime tomorrow AM. Will advise when he gets here. Sue & Gene, I will call you when he arrives. -Dan-- Top

Re: Emergency
I had the same thing happen to me on the road tour from LI, NY to Sun Valley to the 1999 conventiion...every time I came to a toll booth or an exit etc. the car would do the exact same thing that Jack describes...I added an electric fuel pump which helped the problem, but didn't cure it all together...best advice I can give at this point of the trip is insulate the fuel lines with some foam insulation that you can purchase for copper plumbing pipes at home depot...next best advice is change the carb to something that is newer and fits on the manifold...did that and cured the problem toot sweet...- Top

I absolutely do not understand why Jack would set out on a cross-country trip in a car with a 30 year old fuel pump.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Emergency
Last Update:
Jack got here at 12:30p - new fuel pump and car is running good. He just left for St. Cathrine's to meet up with his son.
While he was here I took him to Gene and Susan Manno's home to meet them and see their Corvettes (wonderful collection).
So crisis is over - just wished he had more time to spend with us (he let me drive his Vette)!!!
