Michael, whatever trailer you buy, make sure the side door opening sill height will permit not only your current Corvette's door to open so you can easily get in and out of your Corvette inside the trailer, but also a C4/5/6. JMTCW, Gary....

        Hello Michael;
        Enclosed V-nose 20" (102" wide) Featherlite is our latest. 2760 #s w/ spare.EW.
20' because it can be pulled w/ Tahoe/Suburban type vehicle.
Have had many trailers over the years. Think featherlite is best value, because of the quality, weight, ease of tow, and resale.
Not a dealer, just a fan.

        Just my 2 cents.

Featherlite.. Its the last trailer you will have to buy. In the long run it cheaper.

Where is the best place to find used trailers for sale. I am shopping for a 20' enclosed trailer?

Re: those who have enclosed trailers-question for you

Mine is a Interstate and I decided on it because I felt it was the best value for my money. It's a 2005, 20', 10k pound capacity and I bought it second hand for 5k in 2008.

I rarely tow and in fact have only used it once so far and that was to take my 69 from Calgary to Vancouver and back for paint. So because of it's intended limited use I didn't feel I needed a high end or highly optioned trailer so it's pretty basic. I don't know if these are options or standard but it does have a beaver tail and low profile inner wheel wells. The beaver tail is a must for easy loading and the low profile inner wheel wells allow the doors to open farther for getting in and out of the car. A side door on the trailer over the wheel wells would be nice but since the car is so narrow I had no problem with it. The lower profile wheel wells has a trade off in that the whole trailer sits higher which I guess will be more drag and more fuel burn but like I mentioned, I don't use it much anyways.

In keeping cost down I was only looking for a 7000 lb trailer but the bigger brakes of the 10000 lb one made towing in the mountains at little less stressfull so I'm glad I lucked out there.

The best trailer I could buy on the market in 1998 was a Hillsboro (KS) who at that time advertised in Hemmings . I saw one at the Auburn, Indiana Kruse auction on display and ordered one there. Since that time their organization is now called Simplicity and they moved to Derby, Kansas. It was an all aluminum channel design and extremely sturdy. Also, it had a full ramp door instead of 2 ramps which made it simpler for loading. The parent company made horse trailers for years before branching out into car haulers. They had a display at the Barrett-Jackson two years ago in West Palm that was awesome so I assume they are still in business, but you never know. Anyway, I loved that trailer. They do custom shelves, spare stowage, winches, lighting, etc. and you will be looking at probably $20K. I sold mine in 2003 and it was like brand new.

Re: those who have enclosed trailers-question for you

They're reasonably rare because after they're used for active hauling they tend to wind up being pressed into service as a 'remote' garage. But, used enclosed trailers DO show up and tend to surface in lock-step to the beginning/end of race season (we're still a few months away).

Another means of locating them other than just reading the want ads is to contact trailer sales/distributors in your neck of the woods. They have a decent 'feel' for who's out there wanting to trade-in/trade-up.

Remember, a BIG factor in trailer pricing is the freight-in consideration! Most (but not all) have their factory headquarters in the 'trailer belt' (northern Indiana/Illinois area). So the farther you are from the the mfgr's site, the greater your effective cost will be UNLESS you buy new and opt for factory delivery...

Having pulled a few trailers in windy conditions I find low profile is a huge factor to consider. Trailex alumnium look like a great deisign, especially with the exit door on the left side. tom

Trailer World in Bowling Green KY normally has a fairly large inventory of used trailers. If you can wait until winter, try some of the racing trade newspapers, they are usually full of used trailers.

I bought an interstate out of Salt Lake City, because they seemed the most willing to deal.

My advice would be to buy only an all aluminum trailer, they are much lighter and can be towed with an SUV if needed, empty one hardly notices the weight, with car in it not bad. Most of the steel ones are heavy without a car in them and tow much harder. I can move my 26' overall length one around by hand it is so light. Mine is a Thule.
I have also seen a new one designed by the guy who did the fastback Cobra, it is really aerodynamic but can't recall the name, very nice one. Rounded front and sloped from top, great design.
