    It's Official, No Mid Engine C 7

    From today's Automotive News:

It's official: There's no mid-engine Corvette on the horizon.

That's the word from General Motors top global engineer.

    A Corvette with a hybrid powertrain? That's a possibility.

Karl-Friedrich Stracke, GM's vice president of global vehicle engineering, met with Automotive News and AutoWeekAutocar.co.uk. The transmission supposedly had been created when Saab was part of GM.

Stracke has been the head of GM global engineering since December.

Talk about a mid-engine Corvette has been a hot topic in chat rooms. But not everyone is in favor of that engine configuration, which puts the engine behind the driver and passenger seats instead of under the hood.

On the subject of eight cylinders vs. six -- another hot online topic -- Stracke said GM is not testing a V-6 Corvette

Good. I like traditional, front-engined V8s (no offense to the early C1 guys ). Not too keen on the hybrid idea either. JMHO

I'm indifferent on that, but I will continue to pass on the new ones until they rework the designs to get it more toward the C2 Stingray look. There has not been a great looking Vette since '67, in my opinion, but I am not the most objective person on Vette styling .

the new design is for the aero to get better MPG and to help the corvette race team with top speed. if you ever drove a midyear at speed north of 120 MPH you would see how they were NOT aero friendly.

You got that right, I have had my '67 L71 (with bias ply redlines) to 130, and that was a frightening experience, unsafe at that speed too. And the 8-12 mpg of that car would make Obama faint, so guess it was none too slippery through the air. But, I have other cars for speed, and just love the look of the C2, nothing else compares. The new Camaro (I bought #225 off the line) is an example of what can be done with retro-styling, wish they would try something like that on the Vette, my checkbook is waiting.

I just read on the local plant newsletter at Fairfax that the C7 was to be for 2013, but now is pushed back to 2014. They also mentioned that a V6 optional engine is still possible for the C7.

Even Ferrari is fielding a hybrid. It's a political thing to keep the greenies off their arses.

Thats for sure. Take the wheels off a C2 convertible and it looks like a wing with a windshield. Depending on the plane, take off speed is 140-160.

that is why a lot of the C-2 race cars had those "snow plows" bolted under the front to keep the front end on the ground and the C-3 was not any better check out those race L-88
