I have the original built sheet for my 71 but it needs help. It is pretty complete just faded and hard to read. Is there anything I can do to restore the built sheet. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Built Sheet
There are many 'Document Restoration' companies out there. I'd go to my local library and see if there's a restoration firm that does any work for them. Another course of action is look up restorators themselves on the internet, But do not send anything anywhere for any reason that seems fake or not realistic. Re: Built Sheet
Hi Stan !
Welcome to the NCRS. Can you read the information on the sheet at all ?? If you can read it, I would photograph it and document the information that is on it and put it away. If nothing on it is legible, a restoration company might be the answer.Tom Hendricks

Re: Built Sheet
A prior post WAY BACK when, showed pretty dramatic results from using IR photography! It makes some sense as these were originally produced via multi-part form & impact printing, so there'd be 'some' carbon particles left in the original font depressions on the paper.
Further, my hunch is the method relies on the residual carbon particles to absorb sunlight and heat at a different rate than the non-printed surrounding paper surface...- Top

I had found my scanner function on the copy machine to produce the best copy after many attempts with different digital cameras. Some of the photo programs in your computer may help enhansing the print.- Top

Re: Built Sheet
Hi Stan,
You're pretty lucky to have found the sheet for your car!
Although not a restoration suggestion, if you get some readable copies of other sheets from the same era as yours you might get some CLUES as to what information was located in various places on the sheet and thus be able to understand more clearly what you're seeing on yours. For instance M.F.Dobbins 68-72 CORVETTE FACT BOOK has pictures of a few readable sheets from those years.
Good Luck!

Re: Built Sheet
I want to Thank everyone for their help.
I can make out about 50% of it from looking into a mirror on the back side. I have also decoded the best to my of my knowledge from looking at other built sheets. It would be nice to get the rest of the numbers, dealer code, etc. Look forward to asking my next question Thanks again Stan- Top

Re: Built Sheet
When I first bought my car I found the sticker and like you was very excited about the possibility of restoring it. Rather than restore it I ended up reading it on a light table and transferring the information that was clear onto an Excel sheet that i made up.
The known info is on the sheet in regular black font and the info that was unclear I did my best to figure out what it was supposed to be and added it in a lighter font. I attached the first page of my sheet, there were two. Look at it and use it you want to re-create one if you like. Haved fun!!
I wasn't able to attach the Excel file for some reason, it came up as an "Invalid file". I copied it to a Word sheet, if anyone wants the excel sheet and cat help me post it let me know.Attached Files- Top

Re: Built Sheet
Patrick, I have read about others finding a build sheet copy under carpet, behind interior panels, under center consoles, along with the most common, behind dash area. From what I gather, the only sure-shot was the tank. Finding one anywhere else was not a consistent bonus on any model year. I hope to get lucky when I pull the carpet. Good luck and keep hunting.- Top
