    C3 '69 427 dipstick tube color

    Hi everyone,

I have a '69 427/435 L71 that now has L89 alum heads. Should the dipstick tube be natural or orange and does it differ if equiped with alum heads? I just got a new repro dipstick and it came natural. Is that correct or should it be painted orange.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jack

Natural steel is correct. The tubes were installed at St. Louis and came out-of-the-bin in natural finish (and no one painted them).

Don't forget, there is a special seal which goes on the tube before it is inserted into the orifice on the pan.

I'm fighting with my dipstick tube/ color of button right now. Is the "special seal" available?

I have the one that came out of the car which is 18 3/4" from under the cap with a Green button, tube included, and another that was loose with the car that is 24 1/4" long from under the cap with a Red button, no tube. I have an L68 no AC car. Dip Stick.jpg

Part # on Red cap one is 3981088

Marking on Green cap one is M

The latest 1968-69 JG Section 11 in the Mechanical Section has a drawing and application information from Chevrolet parts book.
