    72 vacuum tank install

Is there a trick to installing the vacuum tank (square) on my 72. There are 3 mounting brackets on the tank, 3 sets of holes in the inside of the left fender well. The tank was mounted in this location when I pulled it but now that I want to install it the north set of holes don,t align with the mounting brackets. What am I doing wrong ???????

Rey there are 2 sets of holes the vacuum tank is the top set just below the top of the fender. The lower set of holes are for the charcoal canister (fuel vapor recovery system).

        Re: 72 vacuum tank install

Hi Paul and all my other NCRS friends.
Yes - there are two sets of holes for the vapor canister and the vacuum tank. The upper set are for the vacuum tank - the point of my concern.
The tank set has 6 holes in pairs. When I try to install the tank the south and west pairs line up just fine. It's the north (upper) set that have problems. the upper holes are 1.5" too high and the tank bracket has 2" clearance under the mount.
        Thanks for your reply

          Hi Rey,
I just looked at my 71's tank and don't see how the upper (north) bracket can miss if the other 4 bolts are started in place..
The 2 holes in the splash apron for the upper (north) bracket are only about 1 1/4" below the under side of the fiberglass hood surround.
Are you quite sure that none of the 3 brackets on the tank are bent in any way, especially the upper bracket? If the outer (west) and lower (south) bolts line up properly it must be the upper bracket. Was any work done on the tank?
          Regards,
          Alan

PS: I was thinking about your tank again. I seem to remember the brackets/legs are a dfferent length because of the shape of the splash apron. Are you sure it's not in upside down. The outer (west) bracket holes are VERY close to the outer skin of the fender and easy to miss.

I retrieved this picture from an earlier post. Is this how high your tank is positioned, or is it lower?

            Hi Alan:
My tank is mounted that high as the vapor recovery is mounted under it. And yes the west holes are quite tight to the outer fender skin. From all indications there has been no work done to the tank other than the sand blasting and painting that I did many months ago.
I will look closer and try again to mount the tank. Thanks for the assistance.
