    Firestone 500 721

Need a little help with some tires I just purchased please.

Purchased 6 Firestone 500 721's GR70-15 tires with raised white letters. These are pull off's from spares. The person pulled the tires off to sell those 8 inch rims years ago.

These tires have never been on the ground.

Question is: What year or years Corvettes did these tires come on from St. Louis? If any!

Yes, I know these tires should be used for a static display only. I sure would not want to take a PV ride on these tires.

    Thanks
    Joe

Joe..if my memory serves me well..the Firestone 721's were the tire that Firestone replaced the recalled Firestone 500 tire. I don't believe that the 721 ever came out of the Corvette factory at St. Louis. The Firestone 500s were 73-77.

      Peter,

      Thanks for the reply!

Well I went and pulled those puppies out of the truck and I have only 1 Firestone 721 Steel Belted Radial and 5 Firestone Steel Belted 500 raised white letters.

Now what do I have? Anything! Nothing!

      Thanks

      Joe

That is what I always believed to be true as well.

The Firestone 721s were the campaign replacement tires for the Steel Radial 500s that came on my 1976.

I know that 1977s came with Steel Radial 500s. I am not sure what the OEM replacement was.

            Jim,

Thanks, that exactly what my five Firestones look like.

Guess I will take them to Corvettes at Carlisle next week and see if I can find a buyer.

Looks like someone would like to display their Corvette with 5 original tires.

            Thanks again,

            Joe

Joe, you shouldn't have any problem selling your set of Firestone 500s at Carlisle. Because most the tires were turned in on recall there aren't that many complete sets still out there.

I got my set on eBay a few years ago from another NCRS member in Flordia.

There are many "singles" 500s out there that are all from spares that were forgotten on the recall.

The sidewall for 73-77 should say Steel Radial 500 not steel belted 500

And of course they are dated in a way any of us can read -- thank you DOT.

                    Lyle,

And that is exactly what they say.

Come by spots E-70 thru E-78 at Carlisle and see them for real.

                    Thanks,

                    JR
