Here are some more of Joe's oddball questions. I recently replaced a broken pivot shaft on the driver's inboard side of the car (It had been broken since 86 when I got the car. It had some front end damage that was repaired in the early 80's). I broke out the arsenal of reference materials. I noticed a descrepancy between the screws and J-clips from what is on my car versus what the TIM-JG says and the Paragon catalog shows. My AIM is a very poor quality copy and I need to replace it.
1. I am curious as to what other 65 cars might have for the hardware configuration on the screws and J-clips. With the headlights up, I have J-clips on the upper tabs only. I also have the smaller black philips head screws at all locations, both driver's and passenger's side are the same.
Looking at the reference material, it would have J-clips at all locations and longer zinc or cadmium screws going into the upper mounts or screwing in horizontially. I bought a new set of screws that is pictured.
Before I made the change I thought I would ask what others have noticed on their cars. This could just be a case of "let's put something in there that will work" when the front end was repaired.
2. Also does this look about right for the up position, reference spacing at the rear? It is not quite vertical. I have not taken the passenger's side loose yet and that is where it was set at the up limit.
3. I also had a "Y" bracket stop bolt that had a locking nut on it. This makes it a solid adjustment. I don't see that depicted in the AIM?
Thanks for any input.
