    What is it?

Thanks to the members discussing dual quad identification ..
    https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...80381&uid=5856

    Here's the mystery.
Car/motor unrestored but obviously has had work done. Just passed 40,000 miles last week enroute home from show.
Block stamped F1223CT (I read as a dual carb block)
Dual Carbs..no tags but bodies both show 0-049 with 6-1299 horns (from carb ident discussion these apparently would be for 270HP)
Distributor has vacuum pot on lower right side but hose leads nowhere.
No apparent place to put empty end of hose on carbs. Guessing the dist has been replaced with incorrect unit.
    Intake manifold is 3739653
Tach in car is low RPM running from generator.
    I thought this car was a 245HP.
What's wrong with this picture and what am I missing?

Your CT suffix code is correct for a 245 hp engine, but the distributor should not have a vacuum advance....must have been replaced.
The 245 hp carbs are nearly identical to the 270 hp carbs except for some differences in secondary air valve counterweight and I believe there was a difference in the venturis as well. They both have the 1299 tops and 049 or 1049 main bodies.
Others who know more than me will likely provide more info.

Your car should have hydraulic lifters. Should be easy to discern if it runs quietly without valve train noise. Proper dual point non vacuum advance distributors are relatively easy to obtain, although if you plan of driving the car, hooking up the vacuum advance on the distributor you have might be a more rewarding choice from a drivability standpoint.

        Re: What is it?

Thank you gentlemen. This carb discussion really threw me off as was not aware the 245 and 270 carbs were the same #s. Will get a new distributor to make it right.
        Thanks Again,
        Richard

          Re: What is it?

          You misinterpret...

The 245 HP and 270 HP dual carbs are NOT the 'same number'. The two components of the carb that you cited (air horn and main body casting numbers) just happen to be the same.

The difference is slender and described in depth by your copy of the Judging Guide. Expect the numbers stamped on the ID tags to differ along with the a few other construction aspects...

            Re: What is it?

Sorry Jack, didn't mean 'same number' carbs as I wrote it. Meant same numbers on horn, body, etc.
Have had a second look and they are definitely the right carbs for the 245.
            I feel better now
            Thanks All
