    Judging question - '63 hood

    Judging question on my '63.
How many point would I lose for having an "incorrect" hood.
My car is an early '63 and should not have aligning block or provisions, but my hood has the provisions.

I think it will depend on how close to the presumed change over point your VIN is. If fairly close, you may get off with no deduct. Assuming there is a large gap, I'll provide a guessimate this way.

There are 65 originallity points assigned to body fiberglass....for the whole body. Assume of those 65 originallity points, the field judges think the hood is worth 10 pts. Those 10 originallity points are the sum total of points assigned for Configuration, Date, Completeness, Installation and Finish. Some Judges divide equally amoung those five areas and some don't. For instance some feel "Configuration" or "Date" should weigh more than "Finish"

Assume, the judges divide equally. You may lose 1-2 points for Configuration and possibly, 1-2 points for Date. Even though the hoods are not dated per say, the configuration can be used to "date" the part.

So you might expect a 2-4 point hit depending on the Judge. I'd tend to lean on the bottom side of that range, but that just me talk'in.

Actually you have it backwards. The very early 63's had 4 aligning blocks, the mid 63's had two aligning blocks and the late 63's and subsequent years had no aligning blocks. If yours is a very early 63' it should have the 4 aligning blocks. Mine was built on April 23 63' and it still has the 4 blocks.

        Bob:
Acording to my judging guide it states "up to VIN 6500, have no hood wedges and no provision on the hood to mount the wedges".

Between VIN 6500 ~ 7500 nut plates were installed, with their holes normally plugged...it has many other configurations throughout the year.

My car is VIN 5473, so I think it should not have .

Hmmmmmm.....well I don't have a judging manual. I was passing along the info that I was told on another forum when I inquired why mine had 4 yet I'd seen others with only 2. Mine is 13560. Perhaps there were 4 steps: none, 4, 2, none....???
