    Passing of Tom Stanton (41491)

    Just received word from Tom's wife Denise that Tom passed away this morning (August 26th) from lung cancer.

    Tom was an enthusiastic member of the NCRS, having traveled the country with Denise to participate in many NCRS and related Corvette events. He was a Viet Nam vet and was battling the long lasting effects of exposure to agent orange.

    He recently bought a 65 coupe that he was restoring, working hard toward getting it prepared for judging. I believe most of his last posts on the board were in that regard.

    He went into the hospital expecting to have a torn rotator cuff repaired, only to learn of the advanced cancer.

    We've lost both a true fellow NCRS Corvette hobbyist, as well as a Brother in Arms.

    May he rest in peace. We will miss him.

              Truly shocking. First, Charlie Caddenhead, now so close thereafter, Tom Stanton. They say it comes in threes

                It is events like these that put in real perspective the "p-contest" going on in another post. Not meaning to soil this thread, but really, life is too short .

                  Stu,

                  This is very sad, and I must say shocking news. Our sorrows go out to Denise and family in these difficult times. I had the pleasure of meeting Tom and Denise at the Regional this past year in Kissimmee. They spent about an hour with me looking and talking about our 63 coupe for sale in the corral. We spoke some time later on the phone about other cars and his search for a midyear. Tom was so enthusiastic about finding his dream car. I am now glad he was able to find one before the tragic news of his illness. I'm still shocked thinking about it.

                  If you have any further information regarding arrangements and if there is a link to a funeral home website with a condolences page I would like to send a note to the family.

                  Thank you in advance....
                  Regards,
                  Rich

                          Jack;

                          Thanks for posting the website and funeral information for Tom. I just returned this evening from Carlisle and, although I got a followup E-Mail there from Denise using my son's iphone, I found that device has some limitations and were unable to post the information.

                            Tom was a true corvette enthusiast. I loved the passion and detail he had for his cars. I judged his C 4 and helped him sell it at the winter regional the next year. To show his appreciation he sent me all of his extra C4 parts, including original air and oil filters. He wouldn't even let me pay for the shipping.

                              Tom's service will be held this morning (08/31/2010). It would be nice if we could pause and say a little prayer on his behalf about mid morning. Also, if you have the time, please sign the guest book @ www.coralridgefuneralhome.com or call 1-800-553-0107 code #21911089 and leave a voice message.

                              Thanks to all who have posted here as well. I'll make a copy and send on to Denise and his family. Hearing from some of those who shared his passion for the hobby will hopefully bring her some measure of comfort.
