    Edwin,

I would suggest having a helper and using a leveler on the hoist.

      Edwin, what Joe said.

It's pretty straighforward. I remove the fan, alternator, pullys, and drive belts for convenience and to give me plently of room. I also usually remove the exhaust manifolds and leave them attached to the pipes if I'm not doing anything to them. This saves time and I don't have to mess with the rusted couplings. Be sure you use masking tape to label all of the wires.

Just start removing nuts and bolts and when there are'nt any left, lift out the motor.

Remember, take your time, think through any rusted bolts and problems, and if you get frustrated walk away. This will keep the project fun.

It may make a difference depending on what you are swapping from and to? What is coming out and what is going in might make the answers more insightful.

          Edwin -

The engine removal and installation processes are covered in step-by-step detail in section 6 of the ST-12 Shop Manual.

If indeed you are pulling a motor out of a 59 it will be a lot easier then the 89 you own. Was the 59 a misprint ? 89 will not be in the ST-12, as mentioned earlier, need to know which car you are planning on doing this to.
