Photo below shows the vertical reinforcement that was riveted to the back side of non-tanker rear bulkheads; tankers didn't use it.Attached Files- Top

Re: big tank repair
Here's a pic I took at Bloomington '87, showing NO metal reinforcement (where the crayon "51" is). IIRC, this was on a split window; don't know the VIN, and can't explain the dark fiberglass.
I still think that early '63's (for which Ron's # 3022 applies) would not have had this feature; anybody got a '63 AIM with revision note ?Attached Files- Top

You may have nailed it - I don't show that 3850114 reinforcement in my AIM's until 1964; looks like it was '64-'67 only.- Top

Re: big tank repair
Nice informational thread, but before you do anything, drain the tank and let it sit open for 7-10 days, drop a light into it and let your digital cellphone TV camera go down and take pictures. Maybe it's simple as a piece of metal that rubbed against the tank from outside until the hole appears.- Top

Re: big tank repair
This is a little late, but I finally located this pic, which shows where the six rivet holes would be if the metal reinforcement was removed for the N03 filler nozzle on a coupe.
This is of my late-late '65 convertible, but the rear partition "tub" is the same for both body styles. The real sloppy job # 204 is visible. Took this shot when I had my regular 20 gal tank out.Attached Files- Top

Re: big tank repair
Any response is never too late, first their is no evidence off any holes for the metal reinforcement on the bulkhead, their is two holes for the jack below the driver's seat but only holes, no evidence that a rivet was ever attached. The bracket to hole the jack is on the passanger side in the rear. I really need to send pictures to you. This is a little late, but I finally located this pic, which shows where the six rivet holes would be if the metal reinforcement was removed for the N03 filler nozzle on a coupe.

Again, my car is a early Nov. car which I purchased in 1968, radio delete with racing seat belts and rear scoops at one time. Cat appeared to be a bright blue color at one time, now dark blue as purchased. So the car was repainted between 1963 to 1968.- Top

Re: big tank repair
Nice shots, Ron. For a '63 tanker in the early 3000's VIN range, you could consider it to be considered (still) a "pilot" 36gal car, IMO. Probably no more than a dozen had been built prior to yours. I see you've lifted the cover up to expose the tank and fill/vent hoses. Anything written on the tank ?- Top
