I am trying to put a new light switch on my '66 and '67, the rheostats seem to be shot as the dash lights are only very bright and off. How in the devil do you get the knobs off? Both have no set screws like other knobs on the dash, and they seem to be on real tight. There must be a trick, thanks for any help.

Re: Light Switch Knob removal?
This knob is permanently attached to the metal shaft. The light switch has a small metal pushbutton retainer that holds the knob and shaft assemby firmly in the switch. You can see this pushbutton if you look at the switch from under the dash.
I believe that you first pull the knob and shaft out as far as it will go. Then push in on this small button and pull on the knob/shaft assembly at the same time. The knob/shaft should come out in your hand. Then you can disconnect the electrical wires and remove the switch for replacement.
BE SURE YOUR BATTERY IS DISCONNECTED before attempting switch removal.

OK, thanks very much, it is now done. I just wish the glove box light was as easy to replace.
